Hey, welcome to No Fixed Address! I'm Ryan Vagabundo, and I hope you'll come along as I explore the world of living without any sort of permanent home.
Why No Fixed Address?
There are lots of reasons for someone to choose to live on the road:
Just plain loving constant travel
Never feeling tied down, trapped or subject to economic/social forces beyond your control
When it's a requirement of your job (such as a traveling nurse), or your job is such that it may be easier to just forego a "real" residence for a while and live out of a bag (such as a trucker)
Traveling to enjoy the seasons in different areas (i.e. snowbirds) or to move between seasonal jobs
When you're making the best of limited means and being houseless or a nomad offers you the most acceptable quality of life
Exploring the world and other cultures to find out where you'd most like to be
Labels and Tribalism: No Thanks, Not Here!
This site is going to try very hard to avoid getting locked into one particular culture, philosophy, outlook or set of life circumstances. It's meant to embrace, explore and be honestly (sometimes brutally) critical of all the different forms of living without a permanent home -- and to offer help and knowledge to people in all different types of circumstances.
This covers everything from "digital nomads" taking jets from place to place to people living rough and homeless because they don't really have a choice at the moment - and the whole spectrum in between. Throughout my life I've moved between very different places on this spectrum, and I believe there's something valuable to be learned from any and all of them.
So this isn't a "homeless" site, nor is it a "crust punk" site, a "trucker" site, a "rainbow" site, a "digital nomad" site, a "location-independent entrepreneur" site, a "trust fund kid" site, a "travelling gambler" site, an "RVer" site or a "rail-hopping hobo" site ... but we'll talk about all of these worlds at some point or another.
So with all that said ... welcome!
